Raquel’s practice focuses on international commercial and investor-state arbitration, with significant experience in the construction sector. She has been involved (as counsel or assistant to arbitral tribunals) in over 15 arbitrations under different institutional rules (ICC, CAM-CCBC, VIAC, LCIA, Milan Chamber of Arbitration, ICSID), and subject to a wide range of governing laws (Brazilian, Italian, English, Belarusian, Korean, Swiss, Sharia, United Arab Emirates).
Raquel also advises on international commercial matters. Her latest experience includes the drafting of complex or multitiered dispute resolution clauses and the management of contract termination scenarios in view of a pre-litigation/arbitration framework.
Raquel’s practice benefits from her multicultural education. Having graduated in Law from University of São Paulo, in Brazil, she continued her studies in Belgium, where she obtained her LL.M degree magna cum laude from Université Libre de Bruxelles. At the occasion, Raquel presented her thesis on the effects of the institutional reform of invest-state arbitration to the international investment arbitration framework.
Raquel is member of the Brazilian bar since 2016 (OAB/SP) and, after having learned Italian and having taught herself Italian law, Raquel was admitted to the Milan Bar in 2021.
Before joining ARBLIT, Raquel worked for four years in the international arbitration department of De Berti in Jacchia in Milan, where she also became acquainted with the Italian legal framework and market.
Raquel’s practice is also enriched by her continuous involvement in academic projects. Since 2012, she has been actively involved as a participant and coach of different universities in international advocacy competitions, among which the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot that takes place every year in Vienna. She also participated in the Young ICCA Mentoring Programme in the 2018-2019 biennium. At present, Raquel is part of the Núcleo de Debates em Arbitragem, a selective 20-Member group of Brazilian lawyers practicing in 5 different countries who meet every month to debate hot topics of international arbitration with leading practitioners and professors in the field.
As a lawyer that understands the Brazilian legal environment, Raquel is a valuable addition to ARBLIT’s Latin American desk, which can now count with a skilled professional who is also a native Portuguese speaker.
